President Ali Abdullah Saleh Appears on National TV

After a month and a few days of the assassination attempt in his Presidential Palace, President Ali Abdullah Saleh has appeared on TV. The government said that Saleh would appear on TV about 4 or 5 times before really appearing. While that didnt happen, It had got people wondering if Saleh was dead.
On Thursday, June 7th, the appearance of Saleh on TV was a confirmation that he is alive, but severely injured. Personally, I had to blink three times, to really get it to my head that, that is Ali Abdullah Saleh. Im sure many did have the same reaction, or more like a jaw dropping one. I know I did, for a matter of minutes.
Here is his picture:
Did anyone have the same reaction?
Here is the speech for those who did not see it:
This time, he wasn’t wearing his usual sunglasses, suit nor tie. Instead, he was in a one piece garment and a traditional scarf wrapped around his head, accompanied by casts and wrappings on his arms. He stated he has had over eight surgeries for his burns and all were successful.
While he was speaking, he barely moved his body. He looked like he was struggling and very weak throughout the televised speech. Although, his speech was pretty much the same like any other speech he has said before, this time- he was severely injured/burned. He didn’t say anything about the future of Yemen or if he will be returning to the country. He also did not talk about the GCC plan or foreign intervention. Saleh did thank the King of Saudi Arabia and showed his much appreciation to the military and security bodies that protected the VP and any threats against Yemen.
Everyone is in a state of shock. People who are so concerned say they don’t know what the future of Yemen will be from this day forward. They worry if the situation will worsen. Saleh has once again, stated that he will ”face a challenge with a challenge”, but this time he says it in a hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Once the televised speech was over, within matters of seconds you can hear the gun shots and fireworks being fired in the air, even explosions were being used. Yemen TV showed live footage mostly in Sanaa of the celebrations that were taking place. The sky was filled with rays of colors and bright lights. Supporters of Ali Abdullah have been waiting for this moment. They are filled with excitement and happiness.
On the other hand, those who don’t support Saleh weren’t in a very celebrated mood. Instead they grew much of a questioning stage in their minds. ”What will happen next?” But with this question, they still had determination to fight the regime. They said that the appearance only made them stronger to get what they demand. One lady says, ”what will happen to Yemen is quiet blurry, we have to expect the un-expected. Saleh is alive and will be staying in Riyadh for months due to how serious his injuries are, but he still dares to challenge his people, even outside the country. With that, the youth will stand strong and stand on their feet once again and demand the fall of the regime!”
Mixed emotions accompanied the Yemenis on the night of his appearance. Did his appearance worsen the situation? Or did it revive the revolution?
